Distribution and status: Resident and migratory
Habitat: It is distributed throughout the Indian sub continent
Habits: In non breeding season they are distinguished from little cormorant by size only. Inhabits large inland waters, sand banks, tidal lagoons, singly or in small flocks.
Food Hunts fish by diving and chasing under water. Feeds exclusively on fish.
Life cycle: Nesting season is between Septembers to February varying in different localities. Nest is a platform of twigs usually found in colonially mixed heronry. 3 to 5 to 6 eggs are laid in each nest. Eggs are pale blue with a white chalky layer. Both sexes share duties. Display is seen while breeding by the adults.
