Description: It is a small slender and elongate, active fish, readily identified by the golden body coloration and a golden headed black line. It grows upto 10 cm in length. The fins are reddish orange. The two sexes look alike, but adult females are slightly larger than males
Habitat & Distribution: The Blackline rasbora swims from the mid water level to the surface in ponds, ditches, canals, and reservoir margins of 2 m depth or less. There are nine species of this genus two of which occur in India. It is found in Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Myanmar. It lives in streams, lakes, ponds and ditches.
Note: This is a slow moving fish swimming and propelling itself by jerking its body. Young fish tend to move in shoals. When they are small they make attractive aquarium fish.
