Tamil Name: Oori
Description: Bronze in upperside. Flanks brassy to golden with broad dull greenish- silver longitude stripe from caudal fine leading to belly. Belly white in color.
Habitat and distribution: In India it is distributed in Uttar Pradesh. Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Note: It is an important food fish in West Bengal; called ‘Mola’. It is considered to be rich in Vitamin A. It makes a good aquarium fish. Females are more robust than males,
