Scientific Name: Phyllanthus emblica
Description:Medium sized tree 12-18 m tall. It is deciduous with canopy sparse. Leaves are simple. Flowers tiny on rachis. Fruits are round, green and yellow.
Habitat and distribution: Native to India and Southeast Asia.
Note: Ripening in autumn, the berries are harvested by hand after climbing to upper branches bearing the fruits. India, it is common to eat gooseberries steeped in salt water and turmeric to make the sour fruits palatable. In traditional Indian medicine, dried and fresh fruits of the plant are used.
