Scientific Name: Polyalthia longifolia
Tamil Name: Nettilingam
Description: Large up to 20 m tall. Evergreen with canopy coniferous, Branches drooping or horizontal. Leaves are simple and knife like. Flowers occur in clusters of green and yellow. Fruits are in bunches black like Jamun when ripe.
Habitat and distribution: Native to Sri Lanka. It is introduced in gardens in many tropical countries around the world. It is, for example, widely used in parts of Jakarta in Indonesia.
Note: In spring, the tree is covered with delicate star-like pale green flowers. The tree is a main attraction in gardens throughout India.
