Description: This is a handsomely marked gecko with three white edged olive green crossbars on back; Greenish above eye. Its back has large tubercles.
Distribution and status: Widely distributed in India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Highly habitat specific and is common in some areas of its distribution.
Habitat: A ground dwelling form commonly associated with termite mounds. It is also sometimes seen inside houses.
Habits: It is seen in rock piles and termite mounds emerging during the night to feed on nocturnal insects. It is also found in burrows used by snakes such as the Common krait ( Bangarus caerleus).
Life cycle: Breeding habits not recorded in India..
Role in the environment. As it is a ground lizard found in cool climates any change in temperature will lead to mortality of lizards. It is commonly found in lands adjoining paddy fields. Termite and snake burrows mainly harbor geckoes which dwell there due its coolness.
