Description: Green, bold black stripes on body. Slender tail like abdomen.
Distribution and status: It is widespread, being found from southeastern Europe and North Africa to Japan and south to Australia and Micronesia. It is found in open spaces and is common.
Habitats: A common dragonfly of gardens and fields. This dragonfly perches motionless on shrubs and dry twigs for a long time.
Habits: This species can be seen far away from water and occasionally enters houses at night attracted by the light.
Food: Hawks eat flying insects such as flies, small butterflies and dragon flies
Life cycle: Breeds throughout the year. The nymphs are aquatic.
Role in the environment: Helps in pollination of plants and is an important dragonfly in India.
