Scientific Name: Anthia sexguttata
Tamil Name: Pulli Vandu
Distribution and status: The species occurs in the drier parts of South Asia. It is common in the scrub forests of southern India.
Habitat : It is a ground dwelling beetle commonly seen under vegetation in scrublands.
Habits: Gives out a toxic smelling substance when disturbed. Though common in most areas, climatic changes like acid rain can take a toll on the population.
Life cycle: Males and females are not sexually dimorphic, though it appears males are very slightly smaller than females
Role in the environment: Plays a major role in the food chain in the scrubland ecosystem.
